National Grid Workers Give Southold An A+

The project should be wrapped up in a few weeks, National Grid workers said.

For residents wondering about all the work going on at the corner of Ackerly Pond Lane and Route 25 in Southold, National Grid employees at the site explained on Friday that they're nearing the end of a months' long project to extend a natural gas pipeline.

The pipeline, crew members said, began in Cutchogue and extended 5.5 miles; it will extend to a compression station on the opposite side of Route 25, behind Empire Gas Station, where the project will be completed, crewmen said.

Work should be wrapped up in a few weeks, by the end of November, workmen said.

One thing the crew wanted to stress was the big "thank you" they had for Southold residents, who have been helpful and had no complaints about any inconvenience to motorists their work may have caused.

"Southold is the best," one worker said.
