Poll: Weigh In On A Proposed Moratorium on North Fork Wineries, Breweries and Distilleries

Do you want to see a moratorium? Tell us here.

Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell has proposed a potential six-month moratorium, with a likely three month extension, on new wineries, breweries and distilleries.

Russell said he believes a moratorium would give the town time to craft new code and address the fact that definitions for tasting rooms, wineries, breweries and distilleries don't even exist in today's code. With a burgeoning North Fork and issues including traffic escalating, Russell believes it's time to take a step back and craft code that reflects current concerns.

He feels the public should weigh in and a comprehensive plan should be adopted all at the same time rather than addressing issues in a piecemeal fashion.
