Southold Fish Market Open In New Building

Customers have been pouring in to enjoy the new store and the wide selection of fresh fish.

After a year of anticipation, customers hoping for a peek inside the Southold Fish Market's new digs can stop by the new shop.

Owner Charlie Manwaring said Friday that the fish market is now open, and the take-out section, while not open yet, should be ready for business in about three weeks to a month.

The new, spacious store is sparkling, with indoor seating and large counters.

"It's a larger space, and a nicer space," Manwaring said. "It's all brand-new."

Work has been ongoing at the new store for a year; for months, the business has been operating out of a trailer on the site.

Of the new space, Manwaring said, "Everyone's really happy with it."

Manwaring relocated at the end of September, 2012, when he moved his business — a place he grew up working in and has owned since 1999 — from its longstanding spot in the complex in Southold across Route 25 into a trailer behind the former Hollister’s steak and seafood restaurant.
