Southold School District Officials Considering Canceling Student Trip to Europe

In light of recent events in Europe, officials are looking into possibly canceling the trip.

Southold School District officials are considering possibly canceling the annual sophomore trip to Europe after the recent international unrest and terrorist attacks, according to SoutholdLocal and The Suffolk Times.

“In light of what’s going on in Europe right now, I’m not one to say, ‘Don’t go,’ but I would be remiss to at least not suggest to students that they should at least think about this,” school board member and Southold Town police officer Scott Latham said according to both reports. “There are a lot of bad things going on, and you see on the news, things that are planned to go on.”

Lathem also said the U.S. Department of State sent a warning to travelers that ”war acts are going to happen”, according to SoutholdLocal.
