Southold Town Police Car Involved In Riverhead Crash: Cops

No serious injuries were reported, police say.

SOUTHOLD, NY — A Southold Town Police vehicle was involved in a Riverhead crash Wednesday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the crash took place at 12:21 p.m. on Northville Turnpike, just north of Oliver Street.

Officers arrived on the scene and located two vehicles disabled in the roadway; one was a marked Southold Town Police car, police said.

Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley said the car was serving as a funeral escort; Riverhead and Southold Police reciprocate and help one another during such funeral events, he said.

The Southold Town Police officer involved did not sustain any injuries requiring medical assistance, police said.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported from the scene by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The road remained closed for approximately two hours while an investigation was conducted, and both vehicles were impounded for a safety check, police said.
