Elwood Students Honor America's Bravest

Family and friends could purchase a 'Field of Honor' flag in the name of a loved one who served the nation.

In honor of the brave men and women who serve and have served our country, Elwood-John H. Glenn High School held their “Field of Honor” closing ceremony on Dec. 2.

The event included student performances by Jasmine Pigott who sang the “National Anthem,” Kimberly Fried, who delivered a vocal performance of “God Bless America,” and Sean Donovan, who played “TAPS” on his trumpet. Members of the student government performed the reading of men and women who had a flag flown in their honor.

Members of the Northport American Legion Mort Roberts and Bob Thomas also attended the closing ceremony. Roberts provided a few words about his years of service along with acknowledging a fellow friend and exceptional veteran who was able to witness and appreciate Elwood’s “Field of Honor” prior to his passing.

Sponsored by the student government, family and friends were given the opportunity to purchase a “Field of Honor” flag in the name of a loved one who serves or have served our country, with all proceeds donated to The Wounded Warriors Project. As a memento, families and individuals will receive the flag they purchased along with a certificate.
