The sixth graders were reading books about the open water in class, so English teacher Scott Mikelblank thought the students should have their own experiences with the sea.
The trip fit right into the students’ reading assignments, “Flush” by Carl Hiaasen and “World Without Fish” by Mark Kurlansky.
