Northport Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Nelson
Nelson, a 7-year-old cat, has lost his family twice: "He once again finds himself scared and confused with another void in his heart."

NORTHPORT, NY — Nelson, a male cat who's nearly 7 years old, was named the Northport Pet of the Week. Once a cat is part of the Northport Cat Rescue Association family, he or she is always welcome back if needed, Lora Wild, a volunteer at the rescue, said. That's been the case for Nelson — twice.
He was first abandoned 3-and-a-half years ago when he was left behind in his apartment after the only family he ever knew moved away without him, Wild said. He was taken into the rescue after the landlord called.
"Although there was a sadness about him, he was extremely sweet," Wild said.

He was then adopted by a woman who gave him the patience he needed to trust again. Three years later, Nelson's mom died. He once again landed under the association's care.
"Nelson once again finds himself scared and confused with another void in his heart," Wild said.

Nelson is timid, but he was awfully close with his mom, according to Wild. Although he's a bit fearful of being picked up, he became a lap cat near the end of his time with his mother. He's considered a bit of a couch potato, as he loves to be pet and brushed. He's also very affectionate.
"Nelson was very loved, but it is hard for him not to feel abandoned once again," Wild said. "Grief is a real emotion for cats. He has lost not one family, but two. We are looking for a special home for this beautiful boy. If you think you can be the forever home where this sweetheart can finally lay his head down and feel loved and safe for the rest of his years, please contact us. He will be fully vetted, ready and waiting!"
He is neutered, has all his shots, is litter box-trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV Negative.
The rescue is not doing face-to-face meetings with interested families until the coronavirus passes, but it's taking adoption applications to begin the process. Personal information won't be shared, Wild said.
To meet Nelson or any of the association's other kittens and cats, head to its Northport Cat Rescue website and fill out an application to let them know you'd like to meet him or any other cats. You can also fax an application to 631-651-5597 or call NCRA at 631-606-2631.
