Northport Firefighters Prepare for Natural Disaster With Training Exercise

Northport Firefighters know what to do if a natural disaster hits.
The firefighters participated in a drill that simulated the rescue of victims during a wedding reception near the Planetarium building at the Vanderbilt Museum last weekend.

The two-day drill mimicked the aftermath of a severe weather event and the impact the conditions would have on a number of victims, fire officials said.
About 75 firefighters participated in the live training exercise.

The Suffolk County Urban Search and Rescue Team, the Centerport Fire Department and Northport Fire Department used chainsaws, rope rescue, water rescue and specialized victim removal operations.
Northport and Centerport Fire Rescue boats were used to evacuate victims.
