After Battle, Baumgart's Can Serve Liquor

New Nyack eatery granted temporary liquor license

About this time last month, Baumgart's was dry—and unhappy.

The was shooting for a temporary liquor license during the winter. The interim permit would allow the restaurant to serve wine, cocktails and beer until the permanent license materialized.

But the State Liquor Authority (SLA) said "no way"—since Baumgart's is located within 500 feet of three other businesses with licenses, .

Baumgart's shot back, hiring an attorney and of village officials and residents. In a Patch poll, 93 percent of voters voiced support for Baumgart's.

Now, the work has paid off. The SLA reworked its position, and the eatery was granted a temporary liquor license about one week ago.

"We received our temporary license and were able to do BYO until we set up our bar," explained Irene Wu, the restaurant's manager. "We are now offering beer and wine at the restaurant. Craft beers like Lagunitas and Kelso, as well as red and white wine—many from smaller wineries—are available."
