Alec Baldwin to Visit Nyack High School

The actor and comedian will stop by the village Saturday for an arts benefit

Local "30 Rock" buffs, The Departed fans and The Marrying Man admirerers will have a chance to see their preferred actor in person this March.

Emmy and Golden Globe winning actor Alec Baldwin will visit Saturday at 7:30 p.m. to talk craft with Nyack students and residents. The appearance will benefit ArtsRock and Art Angels, two Nyack non-profits that encourage arts in local schools.

Baldwin will field questions from audience members and converse with Elliot Forrest, ArtsRock's artistic director. Forrest and Baldwin met years ago through Creative Coalition, a political advocacy committee comprised of actors and actresses. This will be Baldwin's second time in Nyack, following a visit in 2008.

"When I met Alec, I learned he was a regular listener of WQXR," Forrest explained. WQXR is a classical music radio program in New York hosted by Forrest. From there, the two remained in contact, and Baldwin volunteered to speak with budding Rockland artists.

The upcoming discussion will be casual, Forrest said, with both men sitting on the stage and going back and forth. Forrest will ask Baldwin about his career and experiences.

"Alec is a great story-teller," Forrest said.

This is the first time ArtsRock and Art Angels have teamed up. Vera Rulon, president of Art Angels, noted Baldwin's visit is in line with the organization's mission.

"Our aim is to enhance art programs in school district and advocate for arts students," explained Rulon, who noted Art Angels helps bolster music, visual arts and drama programs in the district. "By bringing in Alec Baldwin, we can show how these programs can make impact in students' lives."

"The buzz is there," she added. "[The kids] are very very excited about it."
