Brinks Robbery Memorial Service Is Friday

The Nyack entrance to the Thruway and Mountainview Avenue will be closed.

NYACK, NY — It was Oct. 20 when domestic terrorists held up a Brinks armored car at the Nanuet Mall. A Brinks guard, Peter Paige, was killed at the scene. Two Nyack police officers, Sgt. Edward O'Grady and Officer Waverly "Chipper" Brown, were killed at a roadblock set up to catch the getaway cars.

Thirty-six years later, family members, friends and police from around the region continue to gather and pay their respects to the dead.

It's not just memories that are still active. The crime continues to reverberate down the years. Judith Clark, a member of the left-wing terrorist group that planned and carried out the infamous 1981 robbery, was denied parole in April. It was her first time before the New York state parole board. Her 75-years-to-life sentence was commuted in January.
