Felony DWI Charge for Hillburn Man Arrested by Orangetown Police in Nyack

He also faces motor vehicle and drug possession charges.

Orangetown Police Officers were called to Catherine Street in Nyack at 11 p.m. Jan. 24 about a dispute and an unwanted person.

Officers said they encountered Douglas J. LaForge, 40 and found him to be operating a 1998 Ford Escort while under the influence of alcohol. Laforge, a Hillburn, NY. resident, failed field sobriety checks and was arrested for DWI.

While searching the vehicle officers found a marijuana cigarette and a glass pipe containing a small amount of crack cocaine. Mr. Laforge was taken to Orangetown Police headquarters in Orangeburg where he refused to submit to a breath test to determine his blood alcohol content.

He was charged with the following offenses:

  • Felony DWI (due to 2 previous DWI convictions in the past 10 years).
  • Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree (misdemeanor)
  • Unlawful Possession of Marijuana (violation)

He was arraigned by Nyack Village Judge Robert Knoebel and sent to the Rockland County Jail on $1,500 bail.
