From Blacksmith to Restaurant: Strawtown Cafe Opens in West Nyack
If you know West Nyack, you know the Clarksville Inn. Now, meet the Café that sits behind the Inn
The Clarksville Inn in West Nyack was built by Thomas Warner in 1840, and functioned as a stopping place for stage coaches traveling to and from the port of Nyack. It was a center of social life for more than a century, and the setting for farewell balls just before recruits went off during the Civil War. The buildings there were restored in 1957.
But behind the Inn, there is a smaller building with history all its own.
Most recently, the quaint structure was Ann Brooke of Nyack, a landscape architect's shop and office. Now, this old-fashioned corner cottage is the Strawtown Café.

The café, which opened Monday, April 25, was once a local blacksmith shop. It still has old-school charm—there is original, gleaming wide plank floors and lovely white-linen tablecloths and lace curtains—but modern amenities, too. (Like wi-fi).
Currently, the café is offering free coffee with breakfast and complimentary soda with lunch. They are open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and boast free delivery on items $10 or more from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There is also a wonderful deck with circular tables and umbrellas, which sits on the café's left, that can accommodate quite a crowd.
The café offers omelets, all kinds of pancakes, French toast and breakfast sandwiches. For lunch, savor gourmet sandwiches, a selection of appetizers, club sandwiches, burgers and wraps. There are also daily specials.
Stop in for a bite, and perhaps the owner will share some of the decades of history with as you enjoy your two eggs over easy, bacon, toast and free coffee.
Parking is available behind the Clarksville Inn.
