NYACK, NY — As the new year begins, our local officials are busy conducting the public's business in plain sight.

There are plenty of upcoming chances to help tend to our democracy close to the roots. Several public meetings are scheduled for this week that affect Nyack and Piermont.

The Piermont Village Board of Trustees meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Clarkstown Town Council meets Wednesday at Town Hall for its annual reorganization, and is also expected to formally accept the resignation of Recreation Supervisor Elaine Apfelbaum, who is retiring.

The Clarkstown Sanitation Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in Room 301 at Town Hall.
In Orangetown, three public meetings are scheduled for this week including the planning board's Project Review Committee, the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Architectural Review Board, all in the Greenbush Auditorium.
