Ice Glaze Overnight: Hazardous Outlook For Hudson Valley

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Most of the region is under a winter weather advisory as the National Weather Service issued hazardous outlooks for Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster and northern Westchester counties.

Plan on slippery road conditions, which could affect both the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes, the NWS said.

The forecast is cautious: Surface temperatures could warm above freezing across the interior quicker tonight leading to less ice accumulation. There is a chance the light wintry mix ends up spotty rather than widespread.

Still, the NWS said, "Slow down and use caution while traveling."

For the southern end of the region, the storm should start about 4 p.m., bringing a mix of snow and rain changing to light freezing rain. Ice accumulations of a light glaze are possible by morning.

Further up the valley, the storm is expected to begin around 7 p.m. Monday evening and deposit a coating of snow and ice overnight.
