Nyack Closer to Selecting New Superintendent

Decision will be made public April 12

The Nyack School District has whittled down the pool for a new superintendent—a decision that will be announced on April 12—to a handful of candidates.

"There were approximately 15 people that made a cut list," explained School Board president Michael Lagana. "From there, we whittled it down to a lower number."

The board has not released the exact number of candidates still in the running. Lagana said the he and other trustees have been carrying out interviews over the past week, and will continue to do so.

The handful of candidates were selected with the help of , a consulting firm hired by the school district. School Leadership put together an ideal profile—using input from community members, school officials and an —and passed it over to the board.

"Then we took that profile and went to market," Lagana explained.

Nyack Schools are not alone in the hunt for a superintendent——which means Nyack needs to act swiftly, according to Lagana.

"We are the furthest along in the process and closest to making a selection," he said. "Therefore we get the first pick in many cases."

"Resumes show we're in the market at the right time," he added.

Superintendents have also made headlines lately due to their annual pay—and Governor Cuomo's .

The board is also planning a forum that will allow community members to meet and speak with the final person.

"We want any candidate we select to have a chance to meet his or her constituency," said board member Michael Mark.
