Nyack Schools May Restructure Board Meetings

Months with two meetings, the first meeting will be used as a workshop and the second as a business meeting

At Tuesday’s Nyack School Board meeting, Superintendent Jim Montesano brought up possibly restructuring future school board meetings.

Most months have two meetings—December, for example usually only has one meeting. The first meeting of the month would be treated as a workshop and the second would be a business meeting.

"(We would) use the first meeting as what’s known as a workshop meeting. The idea is to try to restrain from having action items on that meeting,” said Montesano, adding sometimes action items will have to be included in the first meeting if there are time constraints.

“Hopefully (we'd) use that (workshop) meeting to talk to the board about what will be on the action item agenda for the following business meeting. The intent is to provide greater opportunity for the public to understand (action items)," added Montesano.

He added that they're putting together a schedule so that the workshop meeting will hold presentations throughout the year "dealing with operations of the school," such as the Dignity for All Act and the upcoming annual professional performance review and how it affect teachers, principals and students
