Police: Counterfeit Bills Passed at Nanuet Businesses

Three incidents may not be related.

Between Jan. 26 and Feb. 1, the Clarkstown Police Department responded to three calls for counterfeit $100 bills being passed in three different locations in Nanuet.

  • A woman passed a counterfeit $100 bill in payment for a balance due at a local bank on Rt.59 in Nanuet. The incident occurred on Jan. 26.
  • An unknown suspect passed 2 counterfeit $100 bills at a local gas station on Rt. 59 in Nanuet. The incident occurred on Jan. 30.
  • A man passed a counterfeit $100 bill for payment of cab fare to a taxi driver on North Pascack Road in Nanuet. The incident occurred on Feb. 1.

The Clarkstown Detective Bureau is investigating the three incidents. Police do not believe the incidents to be related but this is an ongoing investigation.

Police ask all merchants that deal with cash to please verify the authenticity of money being accepted as payment. The United States Secret Service provides excellent information about counterfeit bills on its website, www.secretservice.gov.
