Police Make Arrest In Fatal Route 9W Hit-and-Run: UPDATE
Police began hunting for a damaged Ford Explorer after an elderly Haverstraw resident was killed Tuesday morning.

HAVERSTRAW, NY — A man from Queens accused of killing an elderly man in an early-morning hit-and-run on Route 9W Tuesday is in custody, Haverstraw police announced Wednesday afternoon.
Sugundo Landi-Lucer, 43, is being arraigned on charges of criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, police said.
They thanked the Clarkstown police, the New York Police Department Sentry Unit and New York State Police CTIU-South for their assistance.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day complimented them on their fast work.
"As a former police commander, I understand and appreciate exactly how much hard work went into securing this outcome," Day said. "It is my hope that the family of Juan Germosen can rest more easily tonight knowing the person allegedly responsible for his death is now behind bars and that justice will be quickly served in this case."

Police had also asked for the public's help to identify the car believed to have killed Germosen, 75, as he crossed the road Tuesday near Fairmount Avenue just after 4:45 a.m.
He was hit by a silver or white Ford Explorer with a moon roof and dark rims, police said.
