Actor to Perform “SKITZophrenia” for Ossining My Brother’s Keeper

The event is a fundraiser for MBK, which helps boys and young men of color reach their full potential.

The Ossining My Brother’s Keeper Initiative is hosting a fundraising event Dec. 7 featuring JD Lawrence and his one-man show “SKITZophrenia.”

JD Lawrence, an actor and director, plays more than 70 characters in the 90-minute show that he describes as a “Therapeutic Dramedy Memoir.” He was inspired to write the play after losing his mother. To cope with his depression, his therapist encourages him to let go of his childhood home in Amityville, Suffolk County. While packing, he comes across things that trigger childhood memories. In his performance, Mr. Lawrence confronts important topics like schizophrenia, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, domestic violence, trauma, drugs and alcohol, and adverse childhood experiences.

My Brother’s Keeper is a nationwide initiative to address opportunity gaps for boys and young men of color. President Barack Obama founded MBK in 2014 to connect boys with mentors and support networks, and to help them obtain the skills they will need for college and the workforce.
Ossining launched MBK a year ago.
