Assemblywoman Galef Hosts TV Special Featuring Veterans

Assemblywoman Galef speaks with guests from the Vet2Vet Outreach Program on her TV show "Speak Out."

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef speaks with special guests John F. Bourges, Vet2Vet program coordinator and Karl Rhode, director of the Putnam Veteran Service Agency about the Vet2Vet program on her TV show, “Speak Out”. Vet2Vet is a veteran support program in which veterans support other veterans by socializing together and advocating for each other’s medical and financial needs. This amazing organization does not turn anyone away and allows veterans to take care of their own.

The guests on the show spoke of the different opportunities for veterans to socialize and even receive therapy. V2V encourages veterans to socialize with each other by organizing activities such as bowling, movies, and ball games. In addition, Vet2Vet uses animals as a way for veterans to cope with postwar trauma and illnesses. For example, V2V works with equestrian centers which train veterans how to take care of horses. This experience is not only therapeutic but also allows veterans to give back to their community by helping take care of other horses with the certification they receive from this program. Vet2Vet also has a “24 hour warm line” in which veterans can call V2V to speak with another veteran at any time they need.

“We are so fortunate that New York has funded this Vet2Vet Outreach Program and I applaud the astonishing work it does to care for our veterans,” Sandy Galef.
