Tis’ the Season! Village of Ossining & Ossining Chamber of Commerce team up to Deck the Halls in Downtown Ossining.

This year the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Ossining, came together to discuss and collaborate ideas and visions for decorating the village for the holiday season.

Historic downtown Ossining consists of apartment buildings, coffee shops, restaurants, clothing and sporting goods stores, and home décor. Additionally it is home to many professional offices and service providers and places of worship. Aesthetically the village’s downtown is one of beauty, history and tradition, especially during the holiday season.

This year the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Ossining, came together to discuss and collaborate ideas and visions for decorating the village for the holiday season. The goal was to enhance and add décor throughout the village.

I think it’s very good idea to have the cooperation of the merchants, residents and village government,” said Neil Wolf, owner of Bob’s Army & Navy.

Previously businesses were not sure if they could decorate the outside of the stores. This year the chamber and village encouraged store owners to make their windows, storefronts and buildings festive for the holiday winter season. The chamber began the 1st ever holiday storefront decorating contest.

“The more interaction there is between one another would lead to a better community and the more individual organizations support the village and vice- versa, the results that come about from that working together can only be really positive.” says Wolf

New additions throughout the village’s downtown included lighted tree trunks and bushes at Market Square, in addition to lighted columns on the Market Square stage area. The village installed a beautiful giant wreath with a bright festive red bow which lights up at night on the top main entrance of Main Street Off of route 9a.

In addition to the lighted snowflakes and doves throughout the village and garland lit poles on Main and Spring Streets.

“The village historically has put forward a reasonable effort to beautify downtown and this year it definitely looks nicer than previous year,” added Wolf.

The big Christmas tree remains an ongoing tradition and this year looks better than ever, with hundreds of LED colored light bulbs. A few store owner’s even got motivated and in the spirit and wrapped trees in
front of their stores.

“I always enjoy driving around Westchester County when the holidays are approaching because it’s so much fun to see all the decorations and lights along the streets. This year I was extremely happy when I drove to downtown and saw all the new lights and the tree lit up. They did such a great job. It’s very festive and not only do I love it but my children get excited to see all the holiday decorations as well,” said Dawn Perez, an Ossining resident.

The Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Ossining strive to make Ossining a vibrant, spirit filled community throughout the entire year and especially during the holiday season.

“I think it’s excellent that this is happening and I hopeto see an expansion of cooperation and work like this in the future,” said Wolf.
