The move from Asbury United Methodist Church, where the pantry was founded 33 years ago, was initiated in response to the need for a larger space in which to serve the pantry’s growing number of clients. With fewer stairs, the new space will also be more accessible for older and disabled clients.
“We are grateful for the warm welcome we have received from the Holy Name of Mary Church and we look forward to this new relationship and the opportunities it will provide for us and for our clients,” said Melanie Dodson, Vice President and and board member in charge of organizing the move.

“Asbury Church has been our home for so many years. In fact, the impetus for the pantry came from the Rev. Sandra Myers, then-pastor of the church. We are sad to leave, but remain grateful for the wonderful support that the Asbury community has always provided for our food pantry and for the people in need in our area,” added Jordy Bell, a founding volunteer and current board member.
The move will take place over two weekends, requiring the pantry to be closed April 30 so that all the fixtures can be installed and the new shelving restocked. Starting in April, the clients received flyers informing them of the new location and how to find it. On May 7, when the pantry reopens, volunteers will be out in force to escort any clients who need help finding the new location.
