Igor Lovchinsky’s recitals often bring together contemporary pieces with works as early as the Renaissance, annotating each performance with witty, non-technical discussion engaging all levels of music lovers from the appreciator to the aficionado. He is a native of Kazan, Russia and began performing full recitals of original compositions and improvisations at the age of four. He arrived in the United States at age 10, going on to win first prizes at piano competitions across the country. Lovchinsky’s experiences at the 2002 Inaugural New York Piano Competition were featured in “Speaking with Music” and “On a Personal Note,” two documentaries filmed at the 2002 Inaugural New York Piano Competition. Lovchinsky studied piano at the Julliard School and the New England Conservatory and is currently studying physics at Harvard.
Organized by the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation, the Nadia Reisenberg Young Artists Series introduces the world’s most prodigious young pianists while promoting the appreciation and preservation of classical music. The three performers in this series are noted not only for their exceptional performance skills but for their ability to make classical music accessible to new audiences while maintaining the integrity of the genre. The Steinway & Sons piano played by the musicians was donated to the Library by Camille Budarz. The Young Artists Series is supported with public funds by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional support by Steinway & Sons and Jetblue Airways.
