Galef Statement Regarding Separations of Immigrant Families

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef this morning attended a press conference calling for immigrant children to be reunited with their parents. The following is her statement regarding the federal policy as it is currently being enforced:

“The zero-tolerance policy currently being enforced by the Trump Administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement is indefensible. There is no acceptable excuse or justification for separating children from their parents. The inhuman and inhumane treatment of both adults and children is not an appropriate response to immigration, regardless of documentation status. Our nation’s history of human rights transgressions is frighteningly strong, but we still have an opportunity to protect the immigrant families that have yet to be ripped apart through immediately reversing the decision to separate them and reunite the families that are already forced apart. I have joined my voice with those of my colleagues in the legislature to call for families to be reunited. I will continue to demand action to end this horrific practice.”
