Letter To The Editor: Crossling Running For School Board
The writer introduces herself and her campaign for a seat on the Ossining Board of Education
To the Editor:
My name is Katherin Crossling. I have lived in Ossining for 10 years with my husband and our 3 young boys. I am an attorney with a strong public service background. I care deeply about this community. I have a determined will for all Ossining’s children to achieve excellence.
In 2016, I brought Destination Imagination (DI) to Ossining. DI is a national not for profit STEAM program. Thriving in surrounding districts, the program teaches students to collaboratively solve challenges while developing skills like self-confidence, flexibility and communication. I modeled the program to serve 100 students at no cost to the district. This year the county wide regional tournament was held in Ossining and I was awarded the Spirit of DI award for my contributions.

As a Superlawyers Rising Star, my experience will be an asset to the BOE. Before private practice, I was an ADA in Bronx County. I dealt with a large variety of cases, including cases where I worked with NYC school safety officers and the NYC BOE and DOE to investigate crimes within schools. I have a degree in Psychology and Sociology with a focus on Criminology. I can appreciate how challenges at home and in the community impact students. I will support efforts to address the social emotional needs of all students.
When it comes to fighting for Ossining’s children and community I have been fearless. Relying on my experience as a former prosecutor, this Fall I formed an advocacy group to expose businesses alleged to be operating as erotic massage parlors in Ossining Village close to schools. Within two weeks of presenting to the Village Board, two businesses closed their doors. I then worked with Village officials to propose Village Code changes.

Ossining schools are enduring a budget crisis due to inadequate state funding and growing enrollment. I am exploring ways to use continued lobbying efforts in Albany combined with legal recourse to support equity for Ossining. My contributions to the community and schools these past few years stand out on their own. I am ready to take my determination, advocacy and creativity to the next level. Please vote at OHS on May 15th.
