Letter to the Editor: The Future of Ossining Schools

Schools Superintendent Ray Sanchez invites the community to weigh in at a long-range-planning forum.

Dear Families, Staff and Community Members:

I am pleased to share with you that one of the Board of Education’s goals for the 2015-2016 school year is to develop a new long-range plan. This goal provides us an opportunity to pause and reflect on our current practices and determine what we want and expect for our children in the future. Over the past few years, long-range plans have helped in establishing many of the current programs we have across the Ossining School District. An integral part of the process for developing such a plan includes gathering feedback from our community and staff. This information will help us establish priorities to ensure the school district continues to move forward as a strong and effective system.

The plan will serve as a roadmap for achieving our vision. It will help ensure that all students graduate from Ossining High School prepared for any journey they may choose, and that our school district remains a place where students love to learn, educators inspire, families engage, and the community trusts in its work.

Over the course of the school year, I intend to facilitate a variety of meetings with stakeholder groups to get feedback. The themes garnered from the meetings will help us develop goals, which I will share with our community to ensure the recommendations truly reflect the ideas of our entire school district and Ossining community. The success of this plan will ultimately rest on everyone.

I would like to invite you to an educational forum, during which you will have an opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas for our school district. This session will take place on October 26th at 6:30 p.m. in the AMD Cafeteria. My hope is that this will be the first strong step in moving forward with our successor long-range plan. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Ily Ortiz at iortiz@ossining.k12.ny.us or 914-941-7700, ext. 1317. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office. I thank you for your ongoing support of our school district.
