Letter to the Editor: Ossining Mayoral Election
The writer supports incumbent Bill Hanauer.

Why I am supporting Mayor Bill Hanauer is simple. I still don’t understand the “change” that his opponent is proposing. To my mind, a change would be to elect someone who is not already on the board. If she has new ideas on how to solve our overcrowded school issue or on how to lower our out-of-control taxes, why hasn’t she suggested them? During the votes I am aware of, she has voted the same way that Mayor Hanauer has most of the time. It is not lost on me that the other Village of Ossining trustees are all supporting Bill. I also won’t pretend that the strong influential relationship she shares with our Supervisor and others doesn’t worry me.
While I appreciate her enthusiasm and have high hopes for her future, I still feel that Bill’s opponent doesn’t yet have her finger on the pulse of Ossining. We are a community that is unique and special because of our spirit of volunteerism. There are many volunteer groups that work together to make Ossining the great place it is. I feel it important for my Mayor to understand the value of our Fire department and Ambulance corps, lodges, churches and countless small groups from all of the neighborhoods and how they interact to form the fabric of Ossining. As a member of the Fire department, Ossining Boat, and Canoe Club, Jug tavern, Sparta Association, Historic Hudson River towns, Ossining Rotary, Sustainable Westchester, Ossining Communities That Care and many more. He has demonstrated an understanding of and a willingness to roll his sleeves up and work to better our community.
Mayor Hanauer values and has worked hard to preserve Ossining’s history and small town feel. I think that the “We Can Do It” building is a prime example of how growth can still fit into our historical village.

In short, my vote will be going to our Mayor Bill Hanauer. I hope you will join me in reelecting him to continue his good work.
