Letter To The Editor: Say Yes To Absentee Voting Proposition

To the Editor:

A yes vote on proposal 4 will mean that any qualified voter who wants or needs to vote at their convenience from anywhere can vote by absentee ballot and be sure that ballot will not be challenged.

If proposal 4 is not passed, voters will still be required to give a provable excuse to vote absentee. On the application form for absentee ballots a voter is required to select a reason for not going to the polls. If that reason is challenged, perhaps because you were seen or known to be in the county while the polls were open, your absentee ballot could be disqualified. You could be disenfranchised.

Early in the covid pandemic, voters were temporarily allowed to vote absentee by claiming temporary illness, fear of infection. That excuse will not be available once the pandemic is declared over unless Proposition 4 passes.

To vote by absentee ballot, you must submit a request by October 18. Forms are available at the Westchester Board of Elections or by printing from the Board’s site .

To turn in your absentee ballot, you may send it by mail, turn it in at any early voting site when the site is open, bring it to your assigned polling place on Election Day, or bring it to the Board of Election, 25 Quarropas St., White Plains, NY by November 3 .

If you request an absentee ballot and it does not arrive in time or you decide for any reason not to use it, you may vote in person at an early voting site or at your assigned polling place on election day. Your in-person ballot will be counted.
