National Merit Scholarship Corp. Recognizes Five OHS Students
Four Ossining students received letters of commendation and one was named a finalist in the 64th annual competition.
Four Ossining High School students received letters of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corp.
Aidan Case, Kellen Cooks, Caleb Feinstein and Nina Foster were recognized by the organization for their outstanding academic promise. About 34,000 of the roughly 50,000 high scorers on the Preliminary SAT receive letters of commendation, according to the scholarship group. They were notified of their achievement in late September.
In early September, OHS senior Emma Montgomery learned that she was a semifinalist in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. She is one of about 16,000 semifinalists nationwide. The semifinalists, who represent less than 1 percent of high school seniors, will compete for some 7,500 scholarships worth more than $31 million.

Although commended students do not continue in the National Merit Scholarship competition, some of them become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
More than 1.6 million juniors in roughly 22,000 high schools entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT in 2017.
