In a surprise decision, the chairman of the Ossining Town Republican Committee announced this morning that the Republican Party will contest the Village Trustee seat previously held by Omar Herrera (D).
Chairman MacFarlane announced this morning the Republican Party’s intent to run Luke C. Carbonaro as the Republican nominee for Ossining Village Trustee. Luke is a volunteer firefighter and Lieutenant in the Ossining Fire Department, a former History and Economics teacher at EF New York, longtime Ossining resident, a graduate of Ossining High School, and graduated with honors from Oswego State University with degrees in Education and in History. Luke is currently pursuing two graduate degrees, a Master of Arts in Emergency and Disaster Management and a Master of Arts in Homeland Security from American Military University.

The Democrats, expecting a coronation and not a contest, will have to develop from scratch the campaign infrastructure necessary to win election in the village. With the election just over a month away, that is easier said than done.
“I am proud to have Luke on our team. We know it will be an uphill fight to win an upset in the Village, but if there is anyone who is capable of breaking the Democrat one-party dominance in the Village, it is Mr. Carbonaro. I look forward to campaigning by his side and establishing a strong Republican presence in the heart of Ossining.”
There are three trustee positions open in the Village of Ossining in the coming municipal election. Previous to this morning’s announcement, all three Democrats running for Village Trustee were unchallenged.
Luke Carbonaro will be the Ossining Town Republican Committee’s only “official” candidate—his fellow Republicans running for positions in the Town (Michael Milner and Aaron Spring for Town Board, John Perillo for Town Supervisor) are endorsed by the Ossining Republican Committee, but will not appear on the ballot with an “R” next to their names, instead appearing under the Conservative (Line “C”) and Reform (Line “H”) Party lines.
Chairman MacFarlane believes Luke is the strongest candidate on the ballot in the village. “Luke has served Ossining for years in the Ossining Fire Department,” MacFarlane said. “He’s a Lieutenant, he’s involved in the training and developing of new recruits. He volunteers with the Baker-Collyer Christmas Cheer Fund. He has worked for Ossining’s Communities That Care. He has taken care of Ossining’s children as the Medical Director for the Villages Summer Camps. The incumbent’s only accomplishment is that she was able to interview her way into a position on the board without any connection to Ossining beyond her zip code.”
Luke Carbonaro, along with his fellow Republicans, is also endorsed by the Conservative Party.
