Ossining High School Senior to Receive County Earth Day Award

Ossining science student will be honored at Earth Day Westchester 2015.

Westchester County is honoring Ossining High School senior Aaron Maxwell with a 2015 Earth Day Award this weekend.

Aaron is one of six Intel Science Talent Search semifinalists from Westchester who are receiving an Earth Day Award for their research on the environment. Aaron’s project is about juvenile American eels in the Hudson River and is titled “Sediment Size and River Bottom Composition Affects the Settlement of Juvenile Anguilla rostrata in the Hudson River.”

The other semifinalists who will be recognized are from John Jay High School, Pelham Memorial High School, Somers High School and Yorktown High School. The county is also giving out awards to municipalities, community members, volunteer groups, college professors, businesses, nonprofits and other students.

Aaron will receive the award at Earth Day Westchester 2015 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Croton Point Park. The event will feature live music and entertainment, environmental exhibits, a farmers market, raffles, a mobile document shredder and activities for children.
