“We urge all parents and community members to support funding enrichment programs and donate to the PTA on Giving Tuesday. By donating to the Ossining School District you are helping your children, the children who smile and wave to you as you walk down the street and who will one day be leading our great community,” she said. “Our PTA is a proud and active part of the school district and we are dedicated to recognizing and promoting the importance of excellence in education and quality of life for all children – we ask you to please be a part of it.”

Ossining School Superintendent Ray Sanchez said: “No matter the size of the donation, it is appreciated. More than the dollar amount a gift is a vote of confidence and support in a cause that is very close to all of us.”

This year the OUFSD is educating 5,082 young people in grades pre-k through high school. The dollars raised on Giving Tuesday will support scholarships for enrichment programs districtwide, benefiting all district schools.

The Ossining community has long been committed to giving, from community members, to faculty, staff, students and parents. OUFSD’s own ACTION Committee, a group of district staff and parent volunteers focused on addressing the needs of students and families in the Ossining community, has executed many successful giving programs. With the use of the Book Mobile and lending libraries throughout Ossining, thousands of gently used books have been circulated into the community. In preparation for a successful school year, the ACTION Committee worked with community partners to provide 120 backpacks and school supplies for students in need. Story walks, which encourage literacy and movement, were on display in parks and store fronts in the village for all to enjoy. And this Thanksgiving, 101 turkeys, reusable bags and children’s book bundles were donated to families.

Top 5 Reasons to Support the Ossining Union Free School District:

  1. OUFSD provides universal access to free education.
  2. An educated population is the cornerstone of democracy, and democracy is dependent on the decisions of educated and informed citizens.
  3. OUFSD, and all public schools, must meet the needs of all students. No child is ever turned away because of physical, emotional or mental disabilities. Those who are extremely gifted and those who are learning challenged, right along with children without special needs, all have their needs met and are welcomed.
  4. OUFSD is proud is have a diverse student body, and the district is truly desegregated as all students are educated together from pre-k through high school. Public schools foster interactions and understanding among people of different ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  5. OUFSD prepares people to become economically self-sufficient.
