Anne M. Dorner Assistant Principal Stephen Hancock will replace Dr. Corey W.Reynolds, who is leaving to take a job with White Plains schools

Stephen Hancock, an assistant principal at Anne M. Dorner Middle School, is expected to be appointed as the new principal of Roosevelt School on Feb. 24, Ossining Schools Superintendent Raymond Sanchez announced Friday.

Following the Board of Education’s vote on the appointment at its upcoming meeting, the school district will arrange for Hancock to meet with parents, students and staff members at Roosevelt School.

“Stephen is an exceptional leader who is committed to supporting Ossining’s mission,” he said. “He has been successful in every role he has held in the district. I am confident that he will continue to be successful in his new role as Roosevelt’s principal,” Sanchez said.

Hancock will replace Dr. Corey W. Reynolds, Roosevelt School principal since July 2011. Reynolds, who has been a valuable employee in the district for 10 years, is leaving to take a position as assistant superintendent for human resources for the White Plains School District.

Hancock, who is fluent in Spanish, first joined the Ossining School District in September 2008 as a social studies teacher. He was appointed dean of students at AMD in September 2012 and as assistant principal in September 2013.

“I am humbled and excited to have been selected as Roosevelt School’s next principal,” he said. “I have enjoyed my time at the middle school and will truly miss my AMD family members, who have helped mold me into the leader I am today.

“I look forward to joining the staff of Roosevelt School and continuing the excellent education being provided to the future generations of our Ossining community,” he continued.

As assistant principal at AMD, Hancock supervises and coordinates the Social Studies, World Language and Special Education departments. His other responsibilities include creating teacher-training workshops, collaborating with faculty to develop curriculum, and facilitating positive-behavior and bullying-prevention programs.

Last summer, he was principal of the Extended School Year Academy for AMD and Ossining High School, and he was principal of the Elementary Extended School Year Academy in the summer of 2013.

Hancock has a master’s in educational administration and supervision from the Bank Street College Future School Leaders Academy and a master’s in literacy education from the College of New Rochelle. He earned his undergraduate degree from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill.
