Ossining School District Ready to Welcome Back Students, Staff on Tuesday

Summer construction improvements Include Roosevelt School gym renovations and new Ossining High School art classrooms.

As summer draws to a close, the Ossining school district is finishing up preparations to welcome students to a new school year Tuesday. Construction projects and other improvements completed this summer include:

  • Ossining High School: Finishing the new art classrooms and painting most of the classrooms and hallways. The art space consists of four classrooms on the lower level. The locker rooms and wrestling space used to be on that level.
  • Anne M. Dorner Middle School: Renovating classrooms and creating new guidance offices. The old principal’s office was converted into a classroom, as was the old guidance space. There is a new faculty and copy room at the school. Guidance counselors’ offices are now located where dean’s office used to be, making them more accessible to students and families. Open Door Family Medical Centers completed renovations to its space.
  • Roosevelt School: Installing a new floor in the gymnasium and expanding the nurse’s office. Cafeteria renovations are scheduled to begin soon. Ossining MATTERS provided funds for new backboards in the gym.
  • Brookside School: Installing a new roof.
  • Claremont School: Replacing rooftop heating, ventilation and air conditioning units.

Ossining anticipates starting a classroom addition project at Park School later this year.

The district’s facilities are ready for students and staff members, Superintendent Raymond Sanchez said. “Our buildings are ready and they really do look great. They’ll look even better as our students enter and our buildings and grounds staff finish up the work,” he said. “And I want to thank them for their hard work over the summer.”
