Ossining School Groups Fundraise for Enrichment Programs

The PTA and A.C.T.I.O.N. Committee are raising money for enrichment opportunities and innovative teaching practices.

For the second year in a row, the Ossining PTA and A.C.T.I.O.N. Committee are raising money to fund enrichment opportunities and innovative teaching practices in the district. The groups began the fundraiser on Giving Tuesday and have a goal of raising $4,000.

Parent organizer Jess Vecchiarelli said the money for enrichment will go toward building students’ social skills through creative play during recess and outdoor time.

“This holiday season, rather than buying our kids more gifts, let’s contribute to the schools that do so much and benefit our children’s whole being,” Ms. Vecchiarelli said. “Learning in a fun environment is priceless. Let’s all dig into our pockets, give whatever amount we can, and make their Ossining experience even richer.”

The district gives children the best education and classroom experience, and Giving Tuesday is about providing the extras, Superintendent Raymond Sanchez said.

“Giving to support their education and growth is a vote of confidence in our young people,” he said. “It is telling them that we believe in them, and we know they will go far. I want to thank all of our donors on behalf of all the children in the Ossining School District.”

Last year’s Giving Tuesday campaign raised $4,065. The PTA gave the money to the A.C.T.I.O.N. (Acting Conscientiously to Ignite Opportunity Now) Committee, which bought items for each school. The committee – which includes district staff, parents and community organizations – purchased drones for Ossining High School; battle ropes for exercise at Anne M. Dorner Middle School; microscopes for Roosevelt School; stop-motion equipment for Claremont School; scooters for Brookside School; and playhouses for Park School.
