Ossining Students Excel in Regional Science Competition
Nine Ossining High School students will advance to the next round of Science and Humanities Symposium following Feb. 3 regional competition.

Nine Ossining High School students who took part in the regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium Feb. 3 will progress to the Upstate New York competition.
This is the 14th consecutive year that OHS will have more student finalists in the upstate symposium than any other school that participates – five out of 32 students overall.
The Ossining students, who are part of the Fundamentals of Science Research Program, participated in the 16th annual Westchester Rockland Subregional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at John Jay High School in Cross River. The upstate competition is March 7-8 in Albany.

Angelo Piccirillo, who co-teaches the Science Research Program with Valerie Holmes, said he attributes students’ success to their work ethic in combination with the spirit of collegiality. “It is remarkable what the students in our program have been able to accomplish for well over a decade. This sort of consistency is a real tribute to the quality of work these students put forth,” he said.
Five of the nine students who will compete in Albany will be vying for a chance to attend the national symposium in April. They are Skyler Jones (chemistry/physical science); Catherine Kamp (environmental science); Sarah Hoffman (neuroscience); Jared Fel (medicine and health); and Caroline Mugambwa (cell and molecular biology).
