Ossining Teacher Receives Doctorate in Educational Leadership
Dr. Letitia Sabina Payne, who teaches special education at AMD, was recognized for her academic excellence and trailblazing research.

Anne M. Dorner Middle School teacher Letitia Sabina Payne recently received her doctorate in educational leadership from the Manhattanville College Graduate School of Education.
The special education teacher was one of 12 men and women to graduate with a doctoral degree in May. She received the award for Academic Excellence in the Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership Program and was one of two graduates recognized for trailblazing research.
“Letitia’s diligence led to the completion of an extraordinary dissertation, through which she set out to measure the implementation of Response to Intervention in 60 New York school districts,” Dr. Stephen Caldas, a Manhattanville professor, said at a pre-graduation reception May 15 at Reid Castle in Purchase. “Her results ran counter to accepted wisdom in the field and were only possible due to her going the extra mile in her research. Her dissertation has the potential to change practice in the field.”

“I have shared the joy of watching several of these new doctors grow since they were very young teachers,” said Renee Gargano, assistant director of the Doctoral Program in Educational Leader
Dr. Robert Monson, director of the program, told graduates that defending their dissertation to faculty members was their “first conversation among peers. As practitioner-scholars, you have the opportunity to effect broader change throughout the field of education.”
