OSSINING, NY — Voters in the Ossining school community will go to the polls May 21 to have their say on the budget for the 2019-20 school year. A budget hearing is scheduled for May 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ossining High School library.

The Ossining Public Library's $4.2 million budget proposal will also be on the ballot.

The proposed education spending package is $134 million, up 3.87% from the current year. The tax levy increase is 2.9%, equal to the state's property tax cap.

The overall increase in state aid for the district is approximately $3.2 million, which includes an increase of foundation aid for which district parents and politicians lobbied hard in Albany. The education aid formulas, outdated, politically skewed and fundamentally inequitable, don't take Ossining's demographics into account.

Highlights include implementing a new math curriculum for elementary and middle school.
