Rain, Flooding, Snow In Hudson Valley's Work Week Forecast

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous outlook for the mid-Hudson Valley.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The weather forecast for this work week is a winter roller-coaster. A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for Dutchess and Ulster counties, where up to two inches of rain could fall into Tuesday. For the whole lower Hudson Valley, the precipitation is forecast to end as possibly a few inches of snow to trouble the Wednesday morning commute.

The melting snowpack (SEE: Final Town-by-Town Snow Totals For Hudson Valley) means some rivers may reach action stage and approach minor flood stage. Some minor nuisance flooding is also possible in urban and flood prone areas, especially where snow banks block storm drains.

Then a period of light to moderate snowfall is expected late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

That is a lot to digest right there. And making this a bit more crazy are temperatures, supposed to be in the mid 50s degrees on Tuesday and a high of 34 on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service says the chance for rain increases after midnight.

Winds will also begin to increase and gust to near 35 mph later this afternoon and evening across eastern coastal sections. The rain will then taper off late tonight, with just some leftover showers into Tuesday morning. Temperatures will climb to well above normal levels through the day on Tuesday.
Rain should redevelop during Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night as a cold front approaches from the west. Colder air will begin to move in during Tuesday night, and the rain will mix with and change to snow from west to east later Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. There is the potential for a few inches of snow resulting in hazardous travel conditions into the Wednesday morning commute.
