SAT 10/24: First-Ever Ossining Fall Food & Fashion Show!

Area farmers, designers, entrepreneurs, and community activists to showcase autumn harvest and clothing in downtown Ossining.

Ossining, NY is home to one of the longest running farmers markets in Westchester County and a flourishing creative culture. Come celebrate it all this Saturday, October 24th, from 11 am to 1 pm, at the corner of Spring and Main Streets in downtown Ossining.

We are going to roll out the red carpet - literally! - for the regional farmers, designers, entrepreneurs, community activists, and others who gather in Ossining.

The show is being produced by Down to Earth Markets, in partnership with many community supporters. Last week, several local designers and boutique owners convened to meet their models and get a preliminary walk through of the show. For example, Ossining resident and historical preservation advocate, Deborah Van Steen, will wear a fall outfit styled by Edith Sutera, the owner of Hot Societe at 175 Main Street. The two are pictured here during a brainstorm about their collaboration.

The beautiful sweater and skirt ensemble (pictured) is by up-and-coming eco designer, Jackii Ramis of @indigoshmindigo. Jackii works closely with Green Tree Textiles, the textile recycling company that collects used fabric donations at the Ossining Farmers Market every week. The sweater - so soft to the touch! - is made with recycled fabrics she sourced from Green Tree Textiles. Dana Levenburg will be modeling her work.

The Ossining Fall Food & Fashion Show will feature looks from several other local designers and fashion from numerous area stores, including Bob’s Army and Navy, Hot Societé, MARCH of Briarcliff, Lilian’s Youth Center, O’Sendy, Club Fit, Nu’Me, and Shine Salon, among others.

The models, to be clothed in the top looks of Fall 2015, will represent a wide swath of the Ossining cloth, such as the Ossining Police Department, the Village of Ossining, the Ossining PTA, local businesses, and more. Mayor Victoria Gearity, Village Manager Abe Zambrano, and other elected fashionistas are also confirmed to walk the catwalk.

Risko Music will provide the event sound system and music, and Mike Risko will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the show. The Ossining-based reusable bag company, ECOBAGS®, the Fashion Technology and Design program at Westchester Community College, and Southern Westchester BOCES, are also contributing their expertise to this unique event.
