Community Corner

SAT 7/25: Corn & Tomato Season is HERE at Ossining Farmers Market!

Plus: Finger painting w/Ossining Public Library + Music at the Market from 10 am-noon tomorrow. Local honey and Indian chutney, too.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”

Perhaps these lyrics go to a famous Christmas song, but the Ossining Farmers Market also sings them in the glorious days of summer. It is high season for corn, peaches, plums, apricots, squash, cherry tomatoes ... and MORE. Come to the market every Saturday, from 8:30 am to 1 pm, at the corner of Spring and Main Streets in downtown Ossining to enjoy fresh foods from the local harvest.

Tomorrow, July 25th, we’re excited to host the Ossining Public Library as part of the market’s Community Table. They have a fun time for kids planned from 10 am to noon - FINGER PAINTING! Also during this time, help us welcome Solar Punch, a band new to the Ossining Farmers Market.

In their words, “We use music to sing about science and the environment. We also hold workshops to help explain solar concepts and provide examples of where solutions are in effect at locations around the world!” Solar Punch was founded by James Dean Conklin and Alan Bigelow in September 2007. They met through tours of the Middle East with Circus Guy, a New York rock band sponsored by the U.S. State Department and sent to build bridges through music. Rock out - and learn! - this Saturday at the market.

The market’s weekly roster features delicious fruits and vegetables, cheese, pasture-raised meat and poultry, breads and baked goods, prepared foods to go, pickles, and much more. This Saturday, customers will also find local honey from Hudson River Apiaries and a wide selection of locally-sourced Indian foods from Bombay Emerald Chutney Company.
