Pulitzer Prize Winner To Speak In Oyster Bay On LI's Ties To Sea
Bill Bleyer, author of "Long Island and the Sea, A Maritime History," will give a presentation based on his new book.

OYSTER BAY, NY — A retired Pulitzer Prize-winning Newsday reporter is out with a new book about the history of Long Island and its waterways, and the author plans to present some of his findings next week in Oyster Bay.
Bill Bleyer, author of "Long Island and the Sea, A Maritime History" will give a presentation based on the book on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the headquarters of the environmental advocacy organization Friends of the Bay. The event, which will begin around 7 p.m., is free and open to the public. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing. Light refreshments will be served.
Bleyer wrote for Newsday for more than three decades, specializing in history, parks and maritime issues before retiring in 2014. He now writes books and freelances for magazines and Newsday. His latest book is set to be published in the spring.

Bleyer, a graduate of Hofstra University, was on the Newsday team that won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the crash of TWA Flight 800 in 1997.
Friends of the Bay is dedicated to preserving, protect and restoring the ecological integrity and productivity of the Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor estuary and the surrounding watershed. Bleyer's event is part of the group's larger speaking series, where attendees can hear informative and entertaining lectures and demonstrations about the ecological, economic and historical importance of the estuary.
