Longtime Pub, Alchemy, Shuts Down On Park Slope Block
A pub-style restaurant that operated in Park Slope for nearly two decades has permanently closed and is being replaced.

PARK SLOPE, NY — A beloved pub-style restaurant in Park Slope has closed after nearly 20 years, but the space won’t stay empty for long.
Situated on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Bergen Street, Alchemy announced earlier this month that it was closing, sharing the news in a social media post from owners Kevin and Georgia Read.
"After an incredible 19 years, the time has come for us to close our doors for good. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the neighborhood all these years and get to know so many of you," the husband-and-wife duo said.

Opened in 2007 by the Read family—also behind Hilltop Tavern and Hamilton’s in Windsor Terrace—Alchemy has grown into a dependable neighborhood favorite.
The restaurant serves classic American dishes alongside a strong selection of draft beers and thoughtfully crafted cocktails. Its menu spans brunch, lunch, and dinner, with popular weekly specials like Burger & Beer night, where guests can enjoy any half-pint for $3 with the purchase of a full-size burger.

While the exact reason for the closure was not immediately disclosed, the Reads confirmed that their two other restaurants will continue operating.
The storefront at 56th and 5th Avenue won’t stay empty for long. Plans are already underway for Uncle Barry’s Bar, next door, to expand into the former Alchemy space with a new concept: Drums & Flats, a bar specializing in wings.
g. Uncle Barry’s, the team behind the project, was founded in 2011 by Josh Ellis, Jake Trebach, and Matt Volner.
