CrossFit Athletes Honor Fallen Patchogue Navy SEAL With 'The Murph'

CrossFit Bastion in Huntington Station performed the fallen hero's favorite workout on Memorial Day in his honor.

Members of CrossFit Bastion in Huntington Station celebrated Memorial Day by honoring a fallen Navy SEAL.

Lt. Michael P. Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, was killed in Afghanistan during Operation Red Wings in 2005. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions.

To honor Murphy, CrossFit gyms perform Murphy’s favorite workout each Memorial Day, which is now called “The Murph.”

CrossFit Bastion gym performed the extreme workout on Monday morning in Murphy’s honor. Over 70 athletes completed the workout. Some wore 20 pound vests for a challenge.

The Murph” consists of the following exercises for time:

  • 1 mile eun
  • 100 pull-ups
  • 200 push-ups
  • 300 squats
  • 1 mile run

Murphy’s father, Dan Murphy, made an appearance at the gym for the second year in a row to share his son’s story of his years as a Navy SEAL and to talk about the mission of the Murphy Scholarship Foundation.

CrossFit Bastion raised $5,000 for the second year in a row for the Murphy Scholarship Foundation.

The patriotic morning featured Stimson Middle School student Daniella Bivas singing the National Anthem and a Color Guard ceremony performed by the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets stationed in West Sayville.
