Disaster Resistance Discussion at SJC Tuesday

First lecture in eco-tourism series.

A discussion on disaster resistance will be taking place at St. Joseph's College's Long Island campus in Patchogue Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.

Titled, "Disaster Resistance and Resilience: Why Neighborhoods Parks Matter," the lecture features Andrew Mowen, PH.D, an associate professor and professor-in-charge of the Honors Program in the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Management at Penn State University and Ariane Rung, PhD., associate professor of the Epidemiology Program at LSUHSC School of Public Health.

St. Joseph's College announced this lecture as part of a two part Institute for Hospitality and Tourism Management Speaker Series titled "Common Issues, Unique Solutions: Rebuilding and Protecting Long Island's Natural Assets and Communities."

The second lecture will be on Wednesday, April 10, and titled "Disaster Revelations: Losses, Gains and Rebuilding Efforts for a New Future." That lecture will feature Daniel Wolff, PhD., author of "The Fight For Home: HOw (Parts of) New Orleans Came Back" and have a viewing of his documentary film "I'm Carolyn Parker." The film will screen at 3 p.m. that day with the talk also at 6:30 p.m.

Both talks will take place in the McGann Conference Center located in O'Connor Hall.
