Artspace Patchogue Lofts Grand Opening

Artspace Projects along with city, county, and state officials and residents of the new Artspace Patchogue Lofts invite the community to join in celebrating the Grand Opening of Artspace Patchogue Lofts at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 27.

Located at 20 Terry Street, one block south of Main Street in downtown Patchogue, the new facility contains 45 units of affordable live/work space for artists and their families and a new home for the popular C2 Fine Art Gallery.

The Grand Opening will be free and open to the public. The event will start at 5:00 p.m. with a formal program at 5:30 p.m. A 6:30 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony will be followed by food, entertainment, and tours of open studios.

Artspace Patchogue Lofts is a five-story structure with 60,000 square feet, 12-foot ceilings, large windows, and open floor plans. The $18 million project received major funding from the sale of tax-exempt bonds through the New York State Housing Finance Agency, federal and state low income housing tax credits, county and local economic development funds, developer investment, and philanthropic contributions. Construction began in December 2009 and was completed in June 2011.

The project has received plaudits from many quarters. “Artspace, like the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, has spearheaded Patchogue’s transition to a Village of the Arts and home for artists to bring their craft to the people," declared Patchogue Mayor Paul Pontieri, whose early support made the project possible.

Marian Zucker, President for Finance and Development at New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) said: “On behalf of Governor Andrew Cuomo and HCR Commissioner Darryl Towns, I want to underscore how much New York State values this development and what it will bring to Patchogue. HCR has worked with Artspace before, and we know it offers the best of what the state government can do when working with non-profit partners. This loft development, where artists will both live and work, will be a

1cornerstone of the vibrant creative community growing in Suffolk County. New York State HCR is also proud to continue to support the ground-breaking efforts of the Village of Patchogue to imaginatively revitalize this community.”

“We are honored and delighted to be part of the Village of Patchogue,” said Artspace President Kelley Lindquist. “Not only Patchogue but the Town of Brookhaven and Suffolk County have all been extremely supportive of this project. We look forward to a long and happy relationship with the entire community and with the artists who choose to make their homes here.”

“Capital One Bank is extremely proud to be a part of the collaborative effort that has made the Artspace Patchogue Lofts a reality,” said Ellen Weber, Suffolk County Market President for Capital One Bank. “By supporting local economic revitalization and helping to strengthen and grow a vibrant arts community, the Artspace Patchogue Lofts provide affordable living, working and gallery spaces that not only benefit the talented artists in residence, but also the entire community.”

ABOUT ARTSPACE

Established in 1979 to serve as an advocate for the space needs of artists in Minneapolis’ rapidly gentrifying Warehouse District, Artspace effectively fulfilled that mission for nearly a decade. By the late 1980s, however, it was clear that the problem required a more proactive approach, and Artspace made the leap from advocate to developer. Since then, the scope of our activities has grown dramatically. Artspace is now the nation’s leading nonprofit real estate developer for the arts with 30 projects in operation in 13 states. The nature of our work is evolving, too, to include multiple-facility projects, long-range planning, performing arts centers, and arts districts. Artspace’s mission is to create, foster, and preserve affordable space for artists and arts organizations.
