Few Pat-Med Students Refused State Exams
Students did not actually have "opt-out" option, but were administered the exam and refused it.

While some Patchogue-Medford parents were considering having their child refuse, or "opt-out" as it was popularly called, of state education examinations in April, ultimately only a few did.

Lori Cannetti, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum of Patchogue-Medford School District, told Patch that 22 students refused the ELA and Math exam and 10 refused the Math exam.
This is 0.6 percent of the 3590 students in grades 3 to 8, Cannetti said. The district was required to have at least 95 percent of students tested in order to make adequate yearly progress, which could possibly affect funds.
Cannetti clarified that there was no official opt-out option, but that these students were administered the exam as the district is mandated and refused to take it.
