Long Island Woman Arrested After Car Strikes Police Vehicle: PD
Sylvia Ebiware, Sylvia Ebiware, 44, of Bellport was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired By Drugs/Alcohol, police said.
PATCHOGUE, NY — A Long Island woman was charged with impaired driving after the car she was driving struck a police vehicle in Patchogue on Friday night, Suffolk County police said.
Police said that at about 10:25 p.m., an officer was in his vehicle, which was stopped in traffic in front of 39 East Main St. when it was struck by a 2018 Hyundai being driven by Sylvia Ebiware. It is not clear which area of the vehicle was struck as a police spokeswoman did not have any more specific information about the crash.
The officer was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where he was treated and released, police said. Ebiware, 44, of Bellport was not injured in the crash, according to police. She was later arrested and charged with Driving While Impaired Drugs/Alcohol, police said.

It is the second such incident in 24 hours where police said a driver under the influence was involved in a crash with a police vehicle. On Thursday night, Danielle Schimmel, 27, of Hauppauge was charged with DWI after Suffolk police say she was behind the wheel when her SUV struck a patrol car that was parked with emergency lights activated at a car crash scene.
Ebiware is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
